A glass fibre fleece works as a separating layer for blood cells and the colour formation takes place within a reaction film. A barcode is located on the reverse side of the test strip. This is read by the meter to confirm test strip identity, i.e.

the lot number on the test strip is congruent with the stored code. Suitable for self-testing, the cholesterol strips are used by firstly performing a simple finger prick technique to draw blood. The drawn blood is placed onto the strip and put the strip into the Accutrend testing system for an effective measurement.
