The designs are inspired by an Alice in Wonderland card game based on illustrations by Sir John Tenniel (1820 – 1914). Elements of each design, including the White Rabbits watch chain and the Mad Hatters bow tie, are detailed in gold, so they stand out against the black print. On the sugar bowl, The White Rabbit frets about his tardiness, exclaiming Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!, while Alice remarks ‘Curiouser and curiouser!’ on its other side.

The jug depicts Alice at the Mad Hatters tea party, where he reassures her, Were all mad here. The spherical sugar bowl is topped with a round lid that has a slot for a small spoon, while the globe-shaped jug has a generous pouring spout and handle.
