It also replaces the original back plate of the motherboard and is screwed directly to the CPU retention mechanism of the CPU socket. The rigid assembly reduces deformation of the motherboard in the CPU area to an absolute minimum and protects the sensitive CPU socket - highly recommended for frequent CPU/cooler installation or when using coolers with increased contact pressure. A plastic foil is installed in the relevant area of the back plate for electric insulation and protection of the delicate pcb tracks in contact with the back plate.
