Just make sure that the cord is only just long enough to not let the pad interfere with any pumps, filters and any other machinery. Use them under leaky machinery and cars - can be placed directly on the ground and will absorb the oil before it contaminates the soil. Best used in conjunction with a drip tray if available.

Have been known to be used in outdoor fish ponds to wick up air-borne oils and contaminants. They should be secured to the side so that they don't interfere with pumps, fountains or other machinery. These particular absorbent pads are ideal for the absorbtion of fuel leaks and spills.
