To keep your wind instrument in tip top condition, it is really important to give it a good clean (inside and out) every time you finish playing. Use absorbant cloths or fluffy swabs for the inside, and lint free cloths for the outside. Clearing the water from the insides helps keep the valves from sticking, and keeps bacteria levels down.

You should also regularly oil any keys on your instrument to keep them running smoothly. If your instrument has cork joints, they can be made to last much longer by applying cork grease regularly (never, ever Vaseline!).
