The expansion vessel is divided into two compartments by a rubber diaphragm or bag. One compartment is for water from the heating system, the other is filled with gas under the overpressure indicated on the label of the container. Installation of the expansion vessel: The static head of the water in the system at the location of the expansion vessel must not be higher than the gas overpressure marked on the label of the vessel.

The maximum temperature of the water in the vessel is 99 °C. As the volume of water in the heating system increases due to increasing temperature, the air space in the expansion vessel decreases and the overpressure in the heating system increases. To ensure that the pressure fluctuations do not exceed safe limits, the expansion pressure vessel must be correctly dimensioned! Advantages of expansion pressure vessels: - Expansion pressure vessels have smaller dimensions compared to non-pressure expansion vessels.
