The rhubarb is ready to harvest from May, with the stalks being fresher and more flavoursome towards the start of the season. Goliath rhubarb boasts bright red stalks that are thick yet tender and not stringy, adorned by lush, rich-green, leafy foliage. Technically a vegetable, rhubarb has a delicious flavour that can be enjoyed in preserves, tarts, crumbles, and other desserts.

This variety is low-maintenance and easy to grow. It prefers a spot in full sun or partial shade, out of frost pockets. It thrives in moist, freely draining soil.

Clear the area of all weeds and dig in some well-rotted manure before planting. Avoid harvesting stalks in the first year and only harvest around a third to a half in the second year. The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
