From February to May, sow indoors on moist, warm compost. Cover thoroughly with a thin layer of compost, 1cm deep. Ideally, start in a propagator and place in a warm climate of up to 20°C.

Germination can take up to two weeks. Thin out when the seedlings have grown large enough to handle. Plants can be moved outside, where they will flower in May when the ground is warmer.

Plants can be acclimatised to the outdoors by being placed outside throughout the day for a few days. Choose a bright location, preferably in the middle to back of the border, and place them 30cm apart. Cosmos plants produce flowers from July to October.
