Gates patented Flex-Weave cover, made of a rubber and fabric, provide smooth clutching action, quiet operation and reduced vibration. The cover also protects the core of the belt from dirt, heat, ozone, and chemical and oil damage. Concave sidewalls distribute wear uniformly; rounded bottom corners assure proper tensile loading; and an arched top allows tensile members to carry loads evenly and relieve internal stress.

An aramid fiber cord reinforcement (that is pound-for-pound stronger than steel) resists the effects of shock loads and provides length stability.
