The light grey colour deflects the sun to keep the camera running cooler for longer and also provides a superior contrast for an enhanced view of the camera, LCD screen and o-ring seal. The cameras internal flash is not suitable to illuminate photos underwater, however, it can be used to trigger an external strobe setup via the twin fiber optic ports which are built into the housing. Any Ikelite DS series strobe may be connected using the Fiber Optic Converter 4401.01 and cord 4501 (neither included) (the AF35 is not compatible with this housing).

Alternatively, a bright constant on video light can be used. A constant on light is not as bright as a strobe flash, but they do provide added versatility because they can be used for focus assist and for improved colours when shooting video. The lens port has a 67mm thread on the front for the easy attachment of external wide angle and macro lenses.

Slightly positive buoyancy in fresh water. Two 1/4-20 tripod mount on the bottom of the housing allow for rotation free attachment of optional trays and lighting arms.
