Ajwain seeds are also known as carom seeds. They look and smell much like cumin seeds. It is a pungent, Indian seed-like fruit with a bitter taste, similar to that of anise or oregano.

They smell almost identical to thyme but even more aromatic. The fruit is commonly dry-roasted and crushed before using and rarely eaten raw.
