The 1.5mm thick mount creates sufficient distance between the picture and the glass so the two cannot stick together and potentially damage the picture. The mounts are cut for often-used standard formats. The inner cut-out is approximately 1cm smaller so that the picture can be placed on each side and attached with the enclosed adhesive strips.
