Opinel In 1890 the 18-year-old Joseph Opinel made a village in the French Alps a small pocket knife in the forge of his father. He sold these to the villagers and farmers, which quickly made the pocket knife very popular. So popular that Opinel started his own workshop.

Opinel designed more pocket knives and after a few years started placing the logo on the blades. The brand continued to grow strongly and was also sold well abroad. After the introduction of kitchen and table knives Opinel became indispensable in many households worldwide.
