The adjustable arm also keeps the lanyard secure so you don't slip, and a rubber retainer keeps the adjustable arm in an ergonomic position on the carabiner for easy clipping. Petzl designed the rubber lanyard to fit the Spirit Screw Lock carabiner specifically.
