This Substrate can be used in a variety of ways; as a top layer in planted terrariums, or for use with amphibians. It is comprised mostly of decomposing sedges, reeds, cattails & marsh grasses. It forms in the shallow areas of open water.

This will provide the ideal mix of structure and moisture retention whilst promoting natural digging and burrowing behaviour. Directions:Spread the substrate evenly over the bottom of the enclosure to a depth suitable for the species. For most species 1-2” (2.5–5cm) is adequate but burrowing species may require 2-4” (5–10cm) of substrate in order to construct their burrows correctly.

Spot-clean regularly to remove soiled substrate and replace completely every 4-6 weeks or as needed. Keep the substrate evenly moist but avoid making it too wet. In planted terrariums the natural processes of the plant roots will ensure the substrate remains fresh as long as it does not become water logged.
