It combines advantages such as overcoming limited accessibility of components, permanently secure joining of various, even sensitive materials, and, upon request, even documentation of the setting process. From a technical perspective, the blind rivet consists of two components: the hollow rivet and the rivet mandrel. While screws, clinching, and punch riveting require access to both sides of the component, the special feature of the blind rivet is that only one-sided accessibility is necessary.

During the setting process, the rivet mandrel is pulled with the jaws of the setting device, deforming the hollow rivet until it reaches a predefined, secure fit in the component. Finally, the rivet mandrel breaks off at the designated point, the predetermined breaking point, and the remaining mandrel can be sent for recycling. The remaining rivet mandrel is the part of the mandrel that remains in the hollow rivet and can serve an additional securing function depending on the application.
