Whether bowl, platter or vase turning, pen turning or between centres work, the R5 lathe allows careful control of the speed to suit the workpiece, with the current speed clearly displayed on the digital readout.

Solid cast iron construction throughout ensures smooth operation and exceptionally low levels of vibration. The castings are CNC machined to exacting tolerances, ensuring perfect alignment of the headstock and tailstock and the smooth movement of the tool rest holder and tailstock along the length of the bed. The maximum working diameter is 305mm and the distance between centres is 457mm.

The drive spindle is precisely aligned and runs in extra wide roller bearings to ensure class-leading concentricity. The drive spindle has a 1" x 8tpi thread with a No 2 morse taper for the fitting of industry standard chucks and attachments. The tailstock features a No 2 morse taper, for accepting live centres and drill chucks, and is hollowed out to accept drill bits for long hole boring.

The non-slip poly V belt ensures efficient power transmission and an incredibly smooth and quiet forward drive. The three-step pulleys provide 3 variable speed ranges of 650 to 1,450rpm, 1,250 to 2,800rpm and 1,600 to 3,800rpm, allowing you to select the correct speed to suit small, medium and large turnings. Belt adjustments are quick and easy, with the hinge-mounted control box swinging out of the way to provide full access to the motor pulley.

The 150mm tool rest is held firmly in the non-slip banjo and will not wander when roughing out or turning large bowls and platters. All banjo, tool rest and tailstock adjustments are made using ergonomic locking levers which can be positioned safely out of the way to prevent obstruction whilst turning. The R5 lathe comes complete with a revolving centre, four prong centre, face plate, knock out rod and spindle locking wrenches.

Precision 75 Woodturning Chuck The Precision 75 woodturning chuck is engineered to ensure that the workpiece sits as close as possible to the headstock, reducing load and minimizing wear on the main spindle bearing. The chuck is machined from a special grade of incredibly strong and durable medium-tensile steel, allowing for closer tolerances during the manufacturing process resulting in excellent concentricity, minimising vibration and ensuring a chatter-free, super fine finish to the workpiece. Precision engineered and beautifully balanced, the chuck offers superior performance combined with rock-solid holding power and excellent load bearing capability.

The precision machined scroll mechanism and the high ratio gearing combine to ensure for a strong grip irrespective of workpiece size. The four jaws open and close using a T-handled key, allowing for one handed operation, leaving one hand free to support and balance your workpiece when mounting and dis-mounting the workpiece. The chuck kit contains the Precision 75 chuck body, 50mm dovetail jaws, 65mm faceplate ring, 35mm pin jaws and screw chuck.

Beautifully presented in a cardboard case, this set comprises of a 1" roughing gouge for taking the corners off square stock, to make it round, 3/4" skew chisel for creating a smooth cylindrical finish, 3/8" spindle gouge for adding detail, such as coves and beads, 1/8" diamond parting tool for cutting deep grooves or releasing finished work from a waste wood base and a 3/8" bowl gouge for the hollowing out of goblets and bowls. These turning tools are made from M2 high-speed steel which has been cryogenically hardened, to ensure an extremely long service life.
