The British Standard BS5306 Part8:2012 states that fire extinguishers should be mounted with the handle a specific distance from the ground depending on the overall weight of the extinguisher.

This often causes people to believe that this is the only way they can be stored. However, the British Standard goes on to state: Extinguishers may also be positioned on fire-stands,fire points or cabinets, in which case these height recommendations need not be followed. This is to allow for scenarios where it's not possible to mount an extinguisher at a certain height, for example a wall with low windows or a weak wall.
