Each preamp incorporates individual transistors in a configuration typical of absolute high-end equipment, delivering the exceptional sound quality that defines professional recording.
Every channel includes analogue gain control, individually switchable 48V phantom power, PAD switch, phase inversion function, and a switchable analogue high-pass filter for complete signal control. Professional connectivity defines the P8's versatility, with eight microphone inputs utilising Neutrik XLR sockets featuring gold-plated contacts for reliable signal transmission at 0 dBu nominal level. The standard configuration provides dual DB25 output sockets, allowing simultaneous connection to multi-channel AD converters and secondary recording devices without requiring external signal splitters.
This parallel output capability proves invaluable for backup systems during critical recording sessions. SPL's commitment to sonic excellence extends beyond electronic design to physical construction, with many components installed using through-hole technology to ensure optimal sound quality. The unit features a robust 4mm thick black anodised aluminium front panel, solid-milled aluminium knobs, and a powder-coated steel housing that reflects its professional pedigree.
An optional eight-channel ADAT converter transforms the purely analogue P8 into a digital-ready recording solution, replacing the second DB25 output with direct ADAT connectivity to audio interfaces. This converter utilises the acclaimed AKM AK5538 ADC chip, supporting sampling rates up to 192 kHz to preserve the full sonic character of the discrete microphone preamplifiers in the digital domain.
