Larder beetles are easy to keep, but require regular monitoring and care. Since this species requires a relatively high temperature to reproduce, unwanted spread in work and storage rooms is practically impossible. Keeping: The bacon beetles are kept in a terrarium made of solid glass (no silicone joints!) or polystyrene.

Polystyrene transport terrariums are well suited. The larvae cannot climb up the smooth walls and the grid as a cover prevents the beetles (which are extremely lazy to fly) from flying out. A temperature of 25-45°C is very important.

A terrarium heater under the breeding container can be used to ensure a constant temperature. Dry cat food (e.g. IAMS-Kitten brand) has proven to be an excellent substrate in the terrarium.

It is also very important for reproduction to provide the beetles and larvae with water at all times. See the product AQUA-GEL for this. consists of approximately 500 ml of dry cat food with hundreds of beetles and larvae in all stages and also eggs that are laid in the dry cat food.
