However the peel is also edible and has a lovely sweet flavour, creating a fabulous sweet and sour experience when they are eaten whole. These unusual citrus trees produce fragrant white flowers which are followed by the bright orange fruits, which make fabulous marmalade! Kumquat trees are capable of surviving brief periods below 0C, but are best grown in large containers and moved indoors to a bright frost free position from autumn to spring. This tree is self fertile and will not need a pollination companion.
