Originating from South America, it’s surprisingly simple to grow but an expensive fruit to buy in the supermarket. Just treat it the same as its relative – the tomato.Plants are enormously productive – each one yielding up to 300 golden fruits surrounded by a papery husk.
The juicy fruits have a pineapple tang and a tomato-like texture. They’re notably rich in Vitamins C and B3. Enjoy them fresh off the plant, in salads and desserts or dried and used like raisins.
They also make a pretty garnish. Once fully mature they’ll store for several weeks.Please note – aside from the fruit, all parts of this plant are poisonous. Height and spread: up to 90cm (36).
