With striking apple green stems and tender, tasty leaves, it delivers excellent flavour whether harvested young or grown to full size. This hardy annual is perfect for successional sowing and can be harvested in as little as 30 days from sowing for ‘baby leaf’ salads, or allowed to mature over 45–70 days for heartier use in cooking.
It’s ideal for cool season growing and a great addition to raised beds, veg patches or containers. Sow seeds from March to July, 12mm (½") deep in well-prepared soil. Space rows 38cm (15in) apart.
Thin seedlings to 10cm (4in) for baby leaf, 20cm (8in) for semi-mature growth, and 30cm (12in) for full heads. Keep plants well watered to maintain flavour and avoid bolting. Earlier and later sowings can be made under cloches or fleece to extend the cropping season.
A helpful companion plant, Mint can be grown nearby to deter flea beetles naturally. Harvest from April to October, with fresh, crisp stems and leaves ready to enhance salads, stir fries and steamed dishes. Images shown are for guidance only and show the expected results of plants upon maturity.
Different growing conditions might vary results. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
Decorative pots are not supplied.
